The Process
If you are interested in a commission, reach out to me either through the contact form on this website or via email at carolyn@carolynaskewfineart.com, and let me know what you are wanting to have done. Please attach one or more photos that you wish to use. I will work with you to find the best possible photo(s), and give you a timeframe when you can expect your finished work. This will vary depending on my current bookings, but once I give you a timeframe, I will commit to having your piece done by the date given. Please note that colored pencil is time-consuming, and each portrait takes me about a week or two to complete.
The better the photo you can give me, the better the end result I can give back to you. An ideal photo is well-lit, with good detail, accurate representation of color, and if the eyes are open in the photo, they should be clear, as the eyes really are the window of the soul and I really strive to get those as true as possible. If your animal has passed, I realize that it may not be possible to get an ideal photo, but I truly love doing memorial portraits, so please contact me and I'm happy to see what photos you have and see if I can make one of them work with no cost or obligation to you until we agree on a photo.
Once we have agreed on a photo, portrait specifications and timeframe, I will email you an invoice for a 50% deposit, which can be paid via Paypal, Venmo or personal check (it will need to clear before your spot on my schedule is secured). This holds your place on my schedule. You may cancel for any reason within 10 days for a full refund. After that time, payment is non-refundable. The balance will be due upon completion and prior to shipping.
The artist retains full copyright on all artwork that is produced. This means I can create prints and display the image on my website and social media pages.
